Menon has calculated the total economic impact of the seafood sector on the Norwegian economy. This has been done in cooperation with Norce and Nofima as part as a three-year research project financed by the FHF (Norwegian Seafood Research Fund).

In the analysis, we find that the seafood sector is among the most important rural industries in Norway. The total employment effects of the industry in 2021 was around 106,000 jobs. This is an increase of approximately 13,000 from 2020. This was driven by a record-breaking NOK 120 billions’ worth of Norwegian seafood exports. In addition, the industry generated net value added amounting to NOK 120 billion in 2021. This is an increase of about NOK 10 billion from 2020, coming from both direct effects in the industry and through indirect effects in the supply chain.
