Maritime

The maritime industry is the most globalized of Norway’s industries. Menon is Norway’s leading provider of analyses of the maritime industry – to both Norwegian and international customers.

Shipping has always been a driving force for and a prerequisite of international trade. Today, 90 percent of world trade volume is transported by ship. In recent times, maritime operations have become increasingly important for the petroleum and other offshore industries. The Norwegian maritime industry has been one of the largest and most innovative shipping industries in the world for more than 100 years.

Menon is Norway’s leading provider of analyses of the maritime industry. We have closely followed developments in the industry during the 2000s. We conduct annual surveys of the industry’s growth, productivity and profitability and provide annual estimates of the market value of the global shipping fleet. Every second year, Menon publishes its report The Leading Maritime Capitals of the World, to broad international acclaim. We have also carried out a series of analyses of the international competitiveness of Norway’s maritime industry clusters and individual industry segments.

We have carried out a wide range of assignments for the maritime industry, including:

  • Analyses of value creation, ripple effects and broader societal impact
  • Benchmarking of strategy and performance, both nationally and internationally
  • Market and competition analyses
  • Corporate and ownership strategy
  • Evaluations of regulatory issues, including public policy instruments and investments
